Talking Our Walk
From the Editors

Use whatever knowledge you have but see its limitations. Knowledge alone does not suffice; it has no heart. No amount of knowledge will nourish or sustain your spirit; it can never bring you ultimate happiness or peace. Life requires more than knowledge; it requires intense feeling & constant energy. Life demands right action if knowledge is to come alive.

From Way of the Peaceful Warrior by Dan Millman (see film review).

This issue marks a double milestone: Andrea and I have been the publishers for a full year—and more importantly, Creations Magazine has turned 20! We’ve even unveiled a new logo (coming soon to our website) to herald the occasion.

Creations has thrived for two decades, in large measure because the information presented is drawn from the heart. Our contributors deliver their material with love and passion, steering readers toward a path of introspection and ultimately action.

Professionally, Creations and I have practically grown up together. Having opened my first natural foods store in 1983, I distributed Creations through my retail locations in Queens, Northport and Huntington. Later I became an advertiser, and now I’m the publisher. New to the publishing business, our first year has progressed better than expected. Refining the magazine is a perpetual process. Creations has been redesigned and our distribution network expanded by some 300 new venues, primarily through the efforts of long-time staffer, Ray Pesonen and newcomer, Cecilia Sullivan.

While enjoying tremendous excitement at the outset of our first year, we enter year two with even greater anticipation. We’ve extended our reach into the creative community by teaming up with the Huntington Arts Council. We are currently co-sponsoring the Summer Arts Festival—51 live performances offered free to the public at Hecksher Park in Huntington Village. Look for the schedule on our Calendar of Events. Additionally, we have begun featuring selected HAC member artists—our cover photo is by photographer, Michael Fairchild.

Creations has also aligned with an environmental organization— HealthyPlanet. Mostly volunteers, this group promotes food choices and lifestyles that respect our bodies and the environment. In July, we helped promote a benefit, supporting their Healthy School Lunch Program, which educates parents, administrators and children in the importance of healthy food choices and the dangers of junk food. HealthyPlanet also serves up a monthly potluck vegan dinner/lecture. This info can be found in our Calendar Listings as well.

If you’re looking to get away, visit Jeffrey Schiller’s Healthy Vacations, which provide an array of classes, outdoor activities and organic food offered in beautiful, natural settings.

The commencement of a new academic year promises lots of lessons. Sol Luckman teaches us The Biology of Enlightenment. He instructs that “Consciousness creates… every illness can be healed.” Incidentally, Luckman’s book, Conscious Healing, is reviewed in Andrea’s column.

David Simon contrasts The Problem with Commandment with The Power of Commitment. Commandment lowers our self-esteem; commitment empowers us.

Want to learn How to Get Sick? Follow A Modern Prescription for Illness. If not, go against these “recommendations” by the author of The Maker’s Diet, Jordan Rubin.

The American Psychiatric Association is given the “hickory stick” treatment in The ADHD FRAUD—How Psychiatry Makes “Patients” of Normal Children. Fred Baughman, Jr. MD, emphasizes that most parents are never told the truth by psychiatrists that there is no proof of a biochemical imbalance in a child’s brain.

Liz Schillinger has aced some important lessons in The Most Important Things I’ve Learned in Life. Every one of us can profit by including these in our daily practice.

Study up, and you’ll make the grade, marking your Milestones along the way.
Peace and Blessings,
