Hello all and welcome to our October- November Autumn Issue. We’re in the season of Transitions. Change is Good, it says in these pages. With this in mind, I thought the following Letter to the Editor is an appropriate kick-off to this issue. Hi Neil, How can we expect society at large to embrace a spiritual path when we are surrounded by such a corrupt system? You would think by now we would be able to create a humane economic system that embraces people and environment. Just wondering! Dear Wondering Will, A fair question. Actually, you pose two questions. This is my take: Regardless of what is swirling around us, we always have the option to remain in the eye of the storm. That means being the calm center; not getting caught up in the chaos. Not saying it’s easy, but we all possess an
innate knowing of “right” from “wrong”
and the freewill to determine a thoughtful
response (as opposed to reaction) to any
situation. We can choose empowerment
or victimhood. Play the victim and we play
right into their hands. Big picture — it all begins internally on an individual basis. Who and what we essentially are, is who and how we ultimately present ourselves to the world. We fix ourselves first, and then the “fix” is in for the world and all its broken systems. Remember: we outnumber them by billions — strength in numbers = advantage us. For the most part, I strive to maintain awareness, so as not to be adversely affected by the “corrupt systems.” In so far as I am able—and choose—I do not engage with them: I dont’ watch, listen to, or participate in most of the illusions that ultimately serve to perpetuate the lies. Yes, I drive a car, but I tossed the TV 15 years ago, and my average yearly spending on “sick care” over the past 35 years is zero. And I refuse to miss out on life’s messages and wonders all around me, by walking entranced with my downward gaze fixed upon a hand-held screen. And this lends itself to the solution to the second part of your query. We are now “able to create a humane economic system that embraces people and environment,” and have been able for some time. But, we need to sincerely, and collectively want to create this. Many systems are breaking down, and they must, in order to make way for a more evolved model. The old, based on competition, profit, and greed, is being replaced with cooperation, compassion and a genuine caring. What we truly intend for the world is what we will collectively create. Gregg Braden puts it this way: Every moment of every day, what you feel in your heart is a command in the Mind of God. The Mind of God interprets our feelings very, very literally. Our world / society / condition is ultimately a clear reflection of our deepest, most sincere thoughts, feelings and actions. … Looking ahead to late March, Creations Magazine and the Ayurveda Café in NYC invite you to share in an all-inclusive Spa Retreat, Ayurveda style, on a lush 50-acre estate in Kerala, India.
