by Mark Matousek
HCI Books
www.hcibooks.com

As imperfect human beings, we often face ethical and moral challenges as we relate with others on a daily basis, be it with our office mates, our Facebook friends, or our best friend since grade school. In a riveting and insightful tour of the meaning and purpose of connection, Matousek draws from personal experience, interviews, and letters from readers to provide a reservoir rich in wisdom about friendship, commitment, honesty, greed, jealousy, loyalty, competition, imitation, abandonment, and reconciliation. In twenty-four succinct essays, each followed by thought-provoking questions, he examines a plethora of moral dilemmas. Backed by scientific evidence, interviews with experts, philosophical teachings, and psychological insight, Ethical Wisdom For Friends is a simple, edifying, and entertaining look at these concepts for everyday seekers who are more interested in hands-on advice than abstract information.

Addiction changes people. You don’t need to be human to see that. “The Addiction Monster and the Square Cat” is a children’s novel of addiction told from the perspective of the family cat. Ten years ago, Sheryl McGinnis lost her son to drug addiction, and now crafts a story aimed at young readers to warn them against the dangers in a way that will appeal to them as both entertainment and lesson. “The Addiction Monster and the Square Cat” is a fine read for late elementary school readers.

MAIN STREET VEGAN
by Victoria Moran with Adair Moran
Jeremy P. Tarcher/Penguin
www.tarcherbooks.com

There are a lot of good things I can say about Victoria Moran and her most recent book, but I’ll start with what I appreciate most: this amazingly eloquent, intelligent, and inspiring educator, author and woman dedicated this book to the animals – those she has “known by name and to those who have no names.” That should tell you a bit about her character. The rest of the book will tell you about her passion, her insight, and her creativity.

Main Street Vegan is a rarity among “vegan-oriented” books in that it is perfectly and aptly targeted to both vegans and nonvegans alike. This is no small feat. Imagine how difficult it must be for an author with as important a moral message as compassion for all living beings to reach those who have already begun to make the connection between the animals and the food on their plates, as well as those who are only just beginning to consider that such a connection exists, let alone matters. It is an astounding effort, and one that for Ms. Moran, has paid off exponentially. This is a book for the masses. It offers a well-researched and well-documented account of navigating the all-too-often muddy waters of living a compassionate, vegan lifestyle (and all that encompasses) in a world that can be undeniably and staggeringly cruel.

THE CLAIRVOYANT PRACTITIONER: A Simple Guide to Developing Your Clairvoyant AbilitiesTHE CLAIRVOYANT PRACTITIONER: A Simple Guide to Developing Your Clairvoyant Abilities
by Tori Quisling
Upaya House Publishing

Tori Quisling is an author, educator, lecturer and founder of the New York Center for Clairvoyant Development. The Clairvoyant Practitioner is an invitation to learn about yourself and others by improving self-awareness. Going beyond the five senses, Quisling focuses on the energy centers of the body called the chakras. Chakras reside in the extrasensory world beyond our human senses. The foreword states “Through this simple step-by-step guide, you will develop a heightened sense of “seeing” and “knowing” by learning to consciously tap into your Clairvoyant System. This conscious use of the Clairvoyant System is called a Reading.”

Upon completing the steps of grounding and meditation, you will be able to “read” others. “Two Clocks” is a reading technique used to identify points of connection and distraction within another’s spiritual and physical bodies. The goal is to bring both spiritual and physical bodies closer to each other, enabling one to be more aware of the events in one’s daily life. Although, the practice of clairvoyance is not “accepted” in the world of science; several professional athletes and entrepreneurs have achieved success using simple techniques of imagination and visualization. The Clairvoyant Practitioner is exercise for the mind; learn to get in tune with your body – and the conscious and subconscious mind.
