Honor All Elements of Time, All the Time
One great impediment to a peaceful journey is an incessant obsession with matters of time. Out of the bounds of the earth experience, time does not exist; yet in our physical journey, it not only appears to exist – it appears to rule! There’s an on-going desire to reconcile the best approach to managing time and its consequence. Should we preserve the past, live for today, or prepare for the future? Spend time capturing memories, existing in the now, or dreaming to create tomorrow’s reality? An interesting element about life on earth is that the earth itself (and all its matter and creatures) models peaceful realities that, when adopted by humans, can help us to integrate beneficial approaches to time. Nature will not stay stiff or sterile. It will not wait for humankind to adapt to its changes before bending, twisting, shedding, and carving. It demonstrates that movement and change are inevitable. Change may be visible in moments or not for thousands of years, but change is constant. The earth and all its holdings are in a never-ending state of transformation. Look at the past, present, and future in terms of a plant. Which is most important or significant, past, present, or future? The seed was created; it is past. The plant is growing; it is present. The plant produces new seeds; the seeds of the future. In the past, the seed was formed as the perfect package to unfold every possibility of the future plant’s journey. The plant engages in its present activities, absorbing moisture through its roots, obeying the sunlight, perhaps enticing pollination, and developing future seeds. Neither past, present, nor future are more important than one another. The same is true for the human experience. Take a look at how you spend your focus. Regretting the past, concluding that the past was the best part of your life, repressing the past because of its disappointments or pain? Do you spend all your focus getting through a day? Too busy to project dreams forward or daydream about a happy memory? Or are you a worrier? Do you fret about everything that can possibly go wrong? Do you anticipate the future as being your escape from today because today doesn’t match your ideal? To gain harmony, the objective is to honor all elements of time. For this month, create a past / present / future logbook and practice concentrating daily on three tasks: 1. Find a happy memory to think about. Write it down then immerse yourself in the memory for three minutes. 2. Find something to appreciate about today. Is it the blue sky? Did you enjoy a happy interaction with your daughter? Did you find a solution at work? Write down three grateful discoveries you make each day. 3. Envision something you want for the future. Write down what it is. A cottage on a lake? Your pilot’s license? Immerse yourself in the vision for three minutes. Overall, the three daily tasks should take about 10 minutes, a profound use of a mere 10 minutes because the activities can balance your relationship with time. It allows for honoring the past, enjoying the present, and optimistically anticipating the future. The benefits will emerge by increasing the positive people, circumstances, and ideas that come your way. There is a circle of power … the more you honor each element of time, the more time brings you what you want. The more you receive more of what you want, the easier it is to honor past, present, future because the present happiness lightens your perspective about all else. But to join the circle of power, you have to enter it. Enter it by following the above three steps daily.
