What BETTER
Looks Like
The intentional infusion of love into our interactions has the power to create the radical changes necessary to make the world better. Dear Friends and Supporters, As we envision a new year filled with hope for family and friends, we remember that together we have quietly empowered others to make their world better during the past year. Thanks to donations to What BETTER Looks Like from caring individuals: • Nine women victims of sexual violence in the Congo, and their children, have new housing in a safe place. • Children living in the Imbabazi Orphanage in the mountains of Rwanda have been provided toys, educational materials and fleece jackets. We have also had children’s bicycles repaired and food bins built. • Four orphaned young adults have been provided a full year of university education. Bright, ambitious students like these will become the future of Rwanda, as it continues to recover from the devastating genocide. What BETTER Looks Like fosters the development of beloved community both here and abroad by helping individuals imagine, articulate and create visions for a better world. Your donation this year will allow us to continue to aid the people of Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo who desperately need our help. In Rwanda, your donation will aid the people of Nyarugunga, half of whom are children and teenagers orphaned in the genocide. Simply put: There is such great need—and so much can be done with so little! Your support will enable the provision of: • Uniforms and fees to enable primary/ secondary school attendance • Training programs for young adults to enable self-sufficiency, such as sewing or obtaining a driver’s license • University tuition for motivated, capable students who would otherwise have no chance of higher education • Basic supplies such as oil, sugar, rice & soap for the elderly and disabled who have no other source of income In Congo, more than 15,000 women were raped last year alone in a country the United Nations has called “the worst place on earth to be a woman.” Our 100,000 Voices campaign is calling attention to the plight of women and children who are brutally sexually assaulted. We will be assembling thousands of people— in Congo, on the Brooklyn Bridge, and through community gatherings around the world—on March 8, 2012 (International Women’s Day) to stand in solidarity and bring vital AWARENESS. Your support will enable us to make this crucial campaign as effective as possible. Please see: www.100kvoices.org.
