by John Calabrese, Huntington, NY FRIED: Why You Burn Out
and How to Revive Courageously written - thanks to a significant amount of personal disclosure - Fried is also “co-authored” by several of Borysenko’s Facebook friends, which amplifies its importance, given the value of all those additional perspectives. “Burnout” is a term typically associated with work. But therein lies the beauty of this book, because it’s also for areas other than career-related issues, such as mothers who are overburdened by chores, errands, crushing schedules for their children, and perhaps even a job, or volunteers who are expected to do the work of three people. Whoever you are, if you’re running the fast track but nearly collapsing from the race, there is hope. This is not merely an instruction manual for coping with stress, though, as there are plenty of those out there. Fried, however, beautifully discusses, in the last chapter “Heaven on Earth,” how to move from burnout to transformation, by mindfully utilizing the former as a catalyst for the latter. If you feel chronically overwhelmed, anxious or numbed out, Fried is worth your time. It’s short, heartfelt, and extremely meaningful for navigating yourself to a more peaceful place.
MAKING MIRACLES –
Create New Realities for
Your Life and Our World For the religious and the secular, Making Miracles greatly assists in expanding your understanding of the nature of miracles. The author humbly points not only to her own numerous experiences, but also to various scientific researchers and writers, healers, and psychologists. Simple exercises are included, designed to challenge and/or add to your conditioned ideas about miracles, framed in an enticing format of readable fonts and block paragraphs. Woodland points out that miracles are far more than manifesting desires; they are transformative in that, once experienced, a person’s orientation to life shifts dramatically. She also adroitly discusses subjects such as collective consciousness, the Zero Point Field (absolutely fascinating), and unconditional love – something that, when truly understood, felt and experienced, positively affects every cell in your body. In considering the depth of some of her exercises, Woodland’s genius shines in both their originality and the sense of comfort and possibility they impart, as well as the broad-minded, dumbfoundingly comprehensive approach to putting all this material together and making it fit. Making Miracles invites you to join in the “collaborative experiment that pushes all the boundaries of human potential.”
DIVINE SEXUALITY:
The Joy of Tantra In the west, the word Tantra has become heavily associated with sex. Overly available and widely-read websites are devoted to spreading the many misconceptions of Tantra, and do little to promote a better, more accurate understanding of its real meaning. The truth behind this ancient, yogic practice is that it is one of spiritual and devotional study, in which the practitioner attempts to establish a sense of the sacred in even the most mundane. In actuality, it is the practice of connecting with the divine in all aspects of our lives. In her book, Divine Sexuality: The Joy of Tantra, Mahasatvaa Ma Ananda Sarita does indeed focus on the divinity of our sexuality, which through Tantra methods, allows for further exploration of the physical, emotional and spiritual relationships we have created within ourselves and with our partners. It is a courageous and inspirational guide for developing a better understanding of the sacredness of our human form, empowering ourselves through a deeper connection to our sexuality, and promoting an openness that nourishes intimacy and growth in all of our relationships. SPOKE TO ME:
The Inspiring Stories of Ordinary
People Who Have Received
Divine Guidance and Wisdom You are already hearing God’s voice without realizing it. This impactful statement is the basis of Doyle’s masterful work, a collection of seventy stories from everyday people. Equally as compelling are his understandings that “everything we think and believe about ourselves,” as well as our conditioned beliefs about who and what God is, are essential factors in determining our ability to hear His voice. The stories in When God Spoke to Me are personal accounts from a variety of religious and spiritual backgrounds - even those who used to be atheists. According to Doyle and numerous other sources, we are not separate from God. In fact, we are not separate from anything: “Because the Essence, Spirit, and Beingness that God is exists within all things and as all things, everything in the world can serve as a communication from God or as an opportunity to hear God’s Voice, IF we have the ears to hear.” Allow When God Spoke to Me to help you hear the same Voice that is there for all of us.
