“Never let the fear of striking out get in
your way.” ~ George Herman “Babe” Ruth For the Sheer Love of It! is what our
cover shouts. This June/July issue focuses
on Creative Passion, Abundance and
Prosperity – and since it’s Father’s Day and
summer, we’ve got Baseball for the “boys.” I just love it when things “coincidentally”
work out. Having completed the first draft
of this editorial, Andrea & I headed out to a
benefit Rock concert, which was comprised
of a variety of acts. As I’m watching the
first act, I’m thinking, “These older guys
look absolutely ridiculous – the outfits,
screaming and jumping around the stage,
… grow up already!” Still grimacing two
acts in, my face suddenly, and widely,
stretched out into a huge grin. But this
was NOT a response to anything funny,
but rather the facial expression of total
mortification. Barely two hours earlier – in
this column – I had extolled the benefits
of doing things for the sheer love and fun
of it. WHAT A HYPOCRITE. And this
is coming from a 52 year-old who plays
baseball with other 50 year-olds, who
run around the field in brightly colored
uniforms … yelling and screaming. The rest of the show was a blast. Oh, for
good measure, here’s another coincidence
that occurred to me after the fact: we “just
happen” to have an article on synchronicity
in this issue. So I’ve got to ask you this: when was the
last time you regularly participated in
anything solely for the sheer love of it?
It doesn’t count if it’s work related, or
involved financial remuneration. And,
not because of any family obligations.
But rather, engaging in an activity or
pursuit, simply because it is fun and brings
you real joy and happiness. I hope your response is not “I can’t
remember,” or “Not since I was a kid.”
How many of us are completely entrained
by our day-to-day obligations, stressed by
our financial restraints, restricted by our
partner, and/or guilt-ridden for “wasting”
time on non-income producing dalliances.
My experience of literally “getting back in
the game” – playing in the Men’s Senior
Baseball League – convinced me that
enjoying a fun activity – simply for its own
sake –makes the rest of life, a whole lot
easier to deal with. Special Edition Issue Our next issue – August/September,
marks the 25th Anniversary of Creations
Magazine. Befitting the occasion, this will
be a special edition. If you’ve been thinking
of joining us, this is your chance to be part
of history. We guarantee, this will be our
only 25th Anniversary Issue. In Peace & Gratitude, P.S. The older gent on the cover is 74 years
old and still playing. |
