The Life Force and the Mind/Body Connection: The Essence of Holistic Health
by Francine Nadav • Cedarhurst, NY

The human body is the most dynamic Creation known to man. Within every creature or substance in the universe is an energy source that gives meaning and purpose to it having been created. The energy source within the human body gives the body form, life and meaning … let’s call it the Life Force. Once the Life Force leaves the body, the tissues and organs that make up the physical body cease to function and eventually disintegrate. That same Life Force defines our character and personality, as no two people are ever exactly alike. One aspect of the Life Force often overlooked is its ability to disturb normal body functions after becoming susceptible to and overcome by disease.

Mankind is different from animals in that the human body stands erect at the vertical plane while animals typically function on the horizontal plane. At the top of the human body is the brain which represents intellect and reasoning. In the center of the body is the heart which represents emotion and feeling. And in the lower half of the body is the reproductive system which represents instinctive body functions. In animals, the brain, heart and reproductive organs are all on the same level; where as in Man, these areas have an obvious hierarchy indicating that the mind and emotions are the defining features of the human Life Force.

Coincidentally, the human brain is also divided into three major parts which control these aspects of the human body. The upper brain develops and manages intellect and reasoning, the middle brain defines emotion and interpersonal relationships while the lower brain controls natural body functions. These concepts are commonly known as the Id (body/ instincts), the Ego (heart/emotions) and the Super-ego (brain/mind).

In the Biblical story of Genesis, there are theologians that interpret Adam, Eve, and the Snake as metaphorically representing these three intra-psychic components of the mind. Eve (the emotions) was the focal point of the tug-of-war between Adam (the intellect) who reasoned against eating the forbidden fruit and the Snake (the instinctive body function) that ultimately seduced her. Within each and every one us resides this hidden Tug of War between our mental reasoning and our physical desires. It’s when our emotions are driven by our physical desires, that we lose our mind and reasoning which eventually creates an environment for mental, emotional and/or physical illness.

In the world of alternative healing and Homeopathy in particular, “holistic” (wholeness) health is when a healthy intellect and reasoning molds the raw material of our emotions so that the natural inclination of the body functions in a proper state of wholeness. Once the disturbed human Life Force is restored to health or is in alignment with its meaning and purpose, the human body has the natural ability to heal itself.

This concept applies to all disease, but the most obvious example is addiction. Emotions are driven by an impulsive desire to indulge in the addictive behavior leaving intellectual reasoning ineffective. Every cigarette smoker clearly knows that smoking may lead to lung cancer and other fatal
illnesses—it’s written on every box of cigarettes. Nevertheless, the addict pays no attention to the bold warning and is willfully seduced by his physical and/or emotional impulse to smoke, drink, eat, work, shop, etc.

Classical Homeopathy is a holistic healing modality that works by stimulating the Life Force – visualize a spiritual “reset” button. In practice, the trained Homeopath matches an individual’s unique mental, emotional and physical symptoms to a homeopathic remedy that has proven to heal similar symptoms. Remedies are highly diluted, energized derivatives of plants, minerals, animals and other substances.

They are safe and effective when taken in conjunction with a treatment program recommended by a trained homeopath.

It is interesting to note that the Homeopathic healing process follows the hierarchy of the human body—mental symptoms heal first, followed by emotional symptoms and then physical ones. The healing process is so natural and gentle that in the beginning of treatment one may not be consciously aware of any improvement. Throughout the course of treatment, the Homeopath monitors the subtle yet effective changes in a person’s health, pointing them out to the individual along their path to health.
