Talking Our Walk
From the Editors

Our relationship to the earth invariably is the reflection of our relationship with ourselves.
–Yogi Amrit Desai

While attempting to sort out the causes for, and searching for solutions to the environmental crisis we find ourselves in, we need only to look in the mirror. Many folks are quick to point out that corporate greed is the “Great Evil” behind the majority of our social and cultural woes. However, isn’t it really our own greed for more, bigger and better that fuels big business? Yes, their marketing teams try to convince us of what we “must have,” but the ultimate responsibility rests upon our shoulders to decide between what is necessary and what is just excessive and wasteful. The environmental problems we face today are challenging us to wake up. “Cleaning up the earth,” proclaims Yogi Desai, “must be viewed as part of the evolution of human consciousness.”

Although Earth Day is in April, remaining environmentally conscious every day is imperative. Besides, it is mutually beneficial. Adam DreamHealer explains that “since energy systems govern all life and all life forms are inseparable from one another, by helping ourselves, we ultimately help everyone,” including our mother—Mother Earth.

In honor of Mother’s Day, we have resurrected the original Mother’s Day Proclamation, written by Julia Ward Howe in 1870. Repulsed by the realities of war, Howe intended for this to be a Mother’s Day for Peace.

Providing a balance to patriotism Eloise Bell has proposed a “matrioitic” perspective. Compared to the patriotic view of seeming separatism—“my country, right or wrong,” Matriotism celebrates the connectedness of nature—our planet and all of her inhabitants.

Dr. Moshe Dekel offers an alternative to the unpleasant Mammogram. It is called Breast Thermography. What most women do not know is that it may take up to ten years of growth, before a tumor can be detected by a mammography. Something to consider.

So now that Spring is really here, those who like to sink their hands into the soil can start thinking about their gardens. In the centerfold, you’ll unearth a comprehensive listing of organic gardening resources that will get you growing.

As a personal aside, in recognition of Mother’s Day, Andrea and I have chosen to honor our deceased grandmothers in the poetry pages, by including poems written by them. Please enjoy Creations Magazine Poetry in this issue, which celebrates the Environment, Spring and the Feminine.
Thanks & Peace,
