A
Healing Gift
by Denise Romas Islip
As
a songwriter, I sometimes get an idea for a song and then I sit and develop
it further. But a year ago late September, I became aware of a song floating
around my consciousness and decided to write it down. It came almost in
its entirety words and music complete. I polished it up and A Healing
Angel was born. I was pleased.
A week later a colleague at my school suffered a tragic family loss, and
when I set out to write her a sympathy card, I found myself selecting
some words from A Healing Angel to add to my sentiment. Before I could
put pen to card, ideas were flowing a mile a minute. First I thought maybe
Id record the song and include it with the card. Then another idea
quickly came of including some musical colleagues and making it more of
a gift of comfort from the staff.
The next day I mentioned the idea to my musical colleagues. They met me
in my classroom after school. I played them the song and they said, "Were
in!" Within days, a recording studio was secured and quite
miraculous in the recording world 4 musicians with day jobs and
nighttime performing jobs were actually able to coordinate their schedules
to be in the studio the following week!
It was clear that I was going with some sort of Divine flow. Synchronicity
was abounding and doors were flying open with ease whenever something
needed to be done. We recorded the song, and within weeks it was mixed,
mastered, picked up by an independent record label, produced, manufactured
and presented to our bereaved coworker. She was so touched. Being the
beautiful spirit that she is, she wanted the whole world to hear the song.
She even sent it to Oprah!
A Healing Angel has been out there as a single CD for a year now, serving
as a musical greeting card. People are sending it to others the way they
would a sympathy card, or a message of care, concern or hope. In fact,
so many colleagues bought the CD that I was able to designate a portion
of the proceeds to buy books on grief and healing for our school library.
In the wake of Hurricane Katrina, I donated some proceeds to Mr. Hollands
Opus Foundation, an organization that brings musical instruments into
impoverished districts across the country. For hurricane relief, they
are repairing and replacing damaged and destroyed instruments. As a music
teacher myself, I could think of no better place for my donations.
I feel privileged to have been used as a vehicle for such a tender song.
I have a sense of responsibility in doing my part. My job is to do the
work, and then, without attachment to outcome, let the Divine energies
take over. It is not for us to question how or when things will happen
as a result of our work, but rather to sit back and allow the energies
to unfold and guide. With this particular song, the synchronicity and
ease with which the whole process took place was enough for me to recognize
that it was all a Divine gift.
In return, my intention for A Healing Angel is that it reaches everyone
its supposed to reach, touches everywhere its supposed to
touch and comforts any that its supposed to comfort.
